Promotion of the recycling of industrial waste and building rubble for the construction industry

Workshop on Greening of public procurement- industry and construction waste in public procurement

17.10.2012 - Ljubljana

On Wednesday, 17.10.2012 Slovenian Chamber of Commerce hosted workshop on Greening of public procurement- industry and construction waste in public procurement.

On the workshop participated over 50 representatives of government administration, construction and recycling companies and company’s representatives who are looking for possibilities of reuse their industry waste.

Participants were presented with best practice cases where experiences were shown on how to incorporate fundamental and additional environmental measures in public procurement of construction and reconstruction of roads.

Field of construction and reconstruction of roads is not included yet in Slovenian Decree of Green Public Procurement. Nevertheless, authority, based on the existing Public Procurement Law, can decide for public procurement measures which are focused on social and environmental aspects. These measures need to be in line with EU regulations and are included in announcement of public procurement or documentation of open call.

Vital role during the transition to recycling society can be played by municipalities who can include environmental measures in public procurement and encouragement of green construction and reconstruction of roads. Among municipalities is unfortunately still lack of interest for inclusion of these measures, regardless the fact that municipalities maintain 4 times more local roads than highways and regional roads where environmental measures are used during public procurement.
